September 2007  As mentioned on the previous page, September was spent working on laying out the footing and wall for the addition.  I also got three 12 foot deep holes drilled for piles for the front porch (the porch will not be going anywhere).

October 2007  At the beginning of the month, I busied myself with backfilling the addition and other such fun, like getting in fence posts before the ground froze.  Towards the end of October, my dad and I removed the old siding from the three sides of the house, along with the attempt at new siding (done by the previous owner) on the front of the house.  At that time, we also added vents to the soffits to improve air flow in the attic spaces. Finally, pink foam insulation was added to make things warmer and more airtight.

November 2007 Most of this month, I worked on building a fence.  November was mostly quite mild, and I managed to get the front yard landscaped by laying sod and planting trees.  The back yard also got some trees planted, but otherwise, not much happened back there.

December 2007 - February 2008  I worked on building the addition in the back, with almost no pictures to show for it - it was too cold!  The picture here was taken in the warmer days to come following a pretty bitter winter.  The new gas line was also installed at that time.

March 2008 This was a big month, with lots happening, most of it not by me.  The electrician wired up the house for service, and the plumbers came to rough-in the plumbing.  Both passed inspection.

April 2008 In this fine month, I did a lot of running around, ordering appliances, deciding what kind of HVAC system to use, so things were a bit stalled, but by the end of the month, the lumber was ordered to begin building the front porch.

May 2008 At the beginning of the month, I got the HVAC sorted out so that heating guys could come and put it in.  I was also figuring out my lights, which involved running around to many different lighting stores, only to decide that the best choice was Schoolhouse Electric.  Go check them out.  Lights Made in the USA (very rare nowadays) that will help the house retain a few echoes of the past, even as I keep updating it.

June 2008 I spent this month very pleasantly, building the front porch and balcony.  While the railings are not yet up, and there is some other stuff to do, I'm pretty pleased about how it's coming along.  The balcony will be especially nice.  You feel as if you're up in the trees.
